In October 2022 The Tirisano Trustees together with Epiroc and Atlas Copco management visited projects in Kwa-Zulu Natal with special focus on Sani2c- a mountain bike marathon event, starting at the base of the Sani Pass and finishing on the shores of Scottburgh beach. It covers a total distance of 250 kms, which must be completed within 24 hours.
Sani2c is a project with a difference as it works towards improving the lives of the communities which are tied along the routes used by the bikers.
It was an important day for the Trustees to witness this amount of work being done by the organisation. The Trust has in the past contributed to the Sani2c by donating generators which are very helpful in the more than 500 participant’s event.
One of the biggest highlights was a visit to a school which a passionate principal who is about producing leaners who will go out in the world with confidence. The principal has sourced two teachers who are paid by donors to teach children English. He also started a computer centre, and the school is hoping to run the centre from Grade 0 to Grade 7. We also got to witness how the community is working towards prettifying their areas by planting along the routes. And went along the farms where the communities come together to clean the roads and make temporary bridges for the bikers.
The trip ended at the Sani2c which is where the marathon starts.
